LEWIS Rollo signed off 2016 in emphatic style this past weekend at the final round of the Pirelli British Superstock 600 Championship at Brands Hatch.
The teenager from Gifford, Scotland, has had a year to remember with three podiums and many laps leading during his rookie season.
The young Scot started the weekend struggling to find a set up that left him with confidence in the front of his Kawasaki around the Kent circuit.
Finally by the end of the second qualifying session, Lewis posted his quickest time, 1.4s adrift of pole and lining him up tenth on the grid for the race.
Lewis got a fantastic start to the race, forcing his way from tenth to third on the first lap. However, due to an oil leak from a crash the race was red flagged, leaving a six lap sprint race at the re-start.
The grid lined up from the previous lap prior to the stoppage, where Rollo had been comfortably holding second position.
After a surge from the determined Scotsman in the later laps, Lewis looked strong for the win. However, the rookie’s rear wheel stepped out slightly on the last corner of the last lap mid pass causing him to lose drive. Never the less, Lewis finished second in the race and clenched fifth in the championship.
“I had a really good end to the season finishing on the podium and fighting for another win.” Added Lewis “I would like to say a huge thanks to all my sponsors who have made this season possible and everyone for the support. The season has gone by so fast and hopefully the winter will as well because I can’t wait to get back out on my bike in 2017”
